SUMMARY:Dolores Huerta: California’s Legendary Organizer Speaks Out
DESCRIPTION:Dolores Huerta will join CalEndow Live on September 18 to discuss organizing for human rights and to share stories and insights from a lifetime of activism. \nHuerta is a California hero and one of the most influential labor and Latino community advocates in United States history. She co-founded the United Farm Workers’ Union with César Chávez\, helped organize the 1965 Delano grape strike\, and served as Vice President of the UFW until 1999.  Huerta was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom\, the nation’s highest civilian honor\, in 2012. \nDuring this hourlong conversation moderated by The Endowment’s Marisol Aviña\, Huerta will discuss the impact of widespread immigration crackdowns on the Latino community and people throughout the United States. She will also consider whether the organizing strategies of the 1960s and 1970s remain effective today. \nRegister now to reserve your space and submit your question for Dolores Huerta! \nThis virtual event is free. Registration is required. Closed captions in English and simultaneous interpretation in Spanish and American Sign Language will be available. \nDolores Huerta is a legendary labor leader\, Latino community organizer\, and advocate for women’s rights. She received the Eleanor Roosevelt Human Rights Award in 1998 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2012.
