Dolores Huerta: California’s Legendary Organizer Speaks Out

Dolores Huerta will join CalEndow Live on September 18 to discuss organizing for human rights and to share stories and insights from a lifetime of activism.

Huerta is a California hero and one of the most influential labor and Latino community advocates in United States history. She co-founded the United Farm Workers’ Union with César Chávez, helped organize the 1965 Delano grape strike, and served as Vice President of the UFW until 1999.  Huerta was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, in 2012.

During this hourlong conversation moderated by The Endowment’s Marisol Aviña, Huerta will discuss the impact of widespread immigration crackdowns on the Latino community and people throughout the United States. She will also consider whether the organizing strategies of the 1960s and 1970s remain effective today.
