Banished Citizens: Community Stories & Conversation

July 25 @ 11:30 am - 1:30 pm

Join CRIISC and Cellar Door Books for a meaningful community conversation inspired by Banished Citizens: A History of the Mexican American Women Who Endured Repatriation by Marla A. Ramirez. This powerful discussion will explore the history and lasting impacts of the Mexican Repatriations of the 1930s, a period during which people of Mexican descent were forcibly removed from the United States.

Community members are invited to learn about this often-overlooked chapter in history, reflect on its legacy, and share personal or family stories related to displacement, deportation, land loss, exclusion, or community erasure. Together, we will honor the experiences of those affected, foster understanding, and create space for healing through storytelling and dialogue.

Whether you carry these stories personally or wish to deepen your understanding of this history, all are welcome to participate in this important conversation with author Marla A. Ramirez.
